Tom Sapsford, an emerging choreographer of note with a focus on new technologies, has had a busy year to date. Following inclusion in the Jerwood Award ceremony at the end of 2003 his current piece, Hypnos, was presented as part of British Dance Edition 2004 (January) and at the Laban, London (April 2004). Hypnos combines choreography by Tom and film by the honey brothers to explore the mystifying subject of hypnosis. Based on material captured whist the dancers were under hypnosis the piece reveals the movement that literally lies within all of us and charts the subsequent discovery of freedom of movement whilst the mind is in a state of hypnosis. An illuminating and thought-provoking journey into the subconscious mind, Hypnos will next be available for touring in Spring 2005.

If you can’t wait that long, Tom is currently creating a solo for Lorena Randi as part of Randi & Lea to be shown at The Place on 23rd June 2004. For further information and tickets, please call The Place box office on: 020 7387 0031 or go to www.theplace.org.uk.
